Celebrating Achievement

Beau Stroud, Year 9, represented peninsula at the Athletics State Championships achieving a silver medal in Pole Vault and a new personal best!  Beau now prepares to represent Qld at Nationals in WA.


Portia Eden, Year 7, won the Sporting Excellence Award at the NQ Sportstar Awards and was recognised for her admirable achievements and strong advocacy for girls in diverse sports. At only 12 years old, Portia has accomplished the unimaginable and is an incredible role model for young athletes.

Alana Mehes, Year 7, recently competed in the under 15's Cairns Team in the State titles for Underwater Hockey. Even though her team came second in the competition, Alana has been chosen to play for the Queensland Team and will be representing Qld in the Nationals titles in January 2020.

Kloe Dunbar-Reid, Year12, was selected for the 'National Olympic Change-maker Summit', one of only 26 students around Australia! An incredible achievement for Kloe who won a place representing St Mary's at an invite only inaugural National summit in Canberra, with her video submission.


On Friday 1st November, St Mary's sent the 14U and 16U netball and rugby teams to compete in the Bentley 7s Interschool Gala Day. All teams competed hard and represented the College with great sportsmanship. Congratulations to the 14U netball team who went through the day undefeated and won the grand final!

A great night at the BLA DATTA awards. Our students represented the College well winning numerous awards and receiving first place in the Year 11/12 Design and Technology Senior Closed Design Award (timber), Year 11/12 DATTA Construction Project Award and Most Outstanding Junior Award. Congratulations to Zak Capponi, Geoffrey Miao, Rhys McAlonan, Alex Lambert, and the Year 11/12 Construction class. A big thank you to our construction trainer Shane Bettini and the hard working staff at SMCC.

Ethan Tenni, Year 11, received the 'Players Player' and 'Coaches Player of the Year' awards in his youth competition in senior soccer this year at Edge Hill.


Joel Mundie, Year 9, was recently nominated as the Cairns Regional Council Representative at the 2019 NQ Sports Star Awards in the Athlete with a Disability field. He was lucky enough to be chosen as runner up in an 'Open Age' group which also included a $500 reward to assist him with his swimming travels in 2020. 2020 will be huge for Joel with World Series in Melbourne, Australian Championships in Perth, Paralympic Trials in Adelaide along with many other events.


Charlotte Jonsen, Year7, was awarded the ‘Most Valuable Player’ for the 12/U Cairns Pythons 2019 representative team. She has had a hugely successful year of netball.


Anastasia Ilic, Year 11, won the Premier Women's Player of the Year for FNQ football!  This is a prestigious honour, especially for such a young player. Ana was voted the Best Woman Player of the Year from Cairns, Innisfail, Atherton and Mareeba.

Victorious JSS Boys Touch Champions taking out the final in convincing fashion 10-2 over St Augustine's College. Congratulations to Gabe Wood, named Player of the final.

Jessica Frape, Year 10, who underwent a grueling training program and consequently gained a position in the 2020 Gold Coast Suns U16/18 Women’s AFL Academy! Jess will train under the guidance of Gold Coast Suns Junior Accredited coaches for an intense period of 6 months which will fine tune her skills. This is a very exciting time for Jess as this is the first step towards her goal of playing AFLW the future.
