Curriculum Matters

It was wonderful to see so many parents at our recent Parent Student Teacher evening.  Evenings such as these are an ideal opportunity for the three key stakeholders (student, teacher, parents), in a student’s education, to come together to discuss progress, strengths, weaknesses and to move forward positively on the journey of learning.  Parents play a vital role in the education of their child and this is recognised and appreciated by all teachers at St Mary’s – we look forward to our continued collaboration.

NAPLAN testing – Years 7 and 9

In Week 4 all Year 7s and 9s will be sitting NAPLAN Online. Students have their skills assessed in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), and Numeracy.  The NAPLAN Online test for 2019 will be held on the mornings of Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May 2019.  Students will be in their timetabled lessons when not completing NAPLAN on these days.  Please ensure your child is available and punctual on these days.

The equipment needed is as follows:

  • Charged Laptop with NAP Locked Down Browser downloaded (this has been done)
  • 2B OR HB PENCIL

Any students who are absent during any of the tests will be required to catch them up during this week.  Catch up sessions will run each afternoon at the school’s convenience. Individual reports will be mailed out during Term 3, as they become available.

Expression of Interest – Community Representatives QCS test

To maintain the accountability, security and proper conduct of the QCS Test, the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) appoints members of the community to complete duties on our behalf.

We invite members of the community to apply for the positions of chief community representative and/or community representative at test centres.

On behalf of the QCAA, the chief supervisor of each test centre receives applications from interested members of the community and selects an appropriate person for each available position at the test centre.

Two nominations (referred to as A and B) are required from each school for the chief community representative positions. A third nomination (referred to as C) is recommended to fill the reserve position.

The appointment of the nominees will be as follows:

  • The person nominated to the A position will be appointed to the nominating school.
  • The person nominated to the B position will be appointed to a neighbouring test centre (except where distance is prohibitive). If the distance is prohibitive, the person will be appointed to the nominating school.
  • The person nominated to the C position will be appointed to the nominating school as a reserve to take the place of one of the chief community representatives (A or B) if that person becomes unavailable.

If you are interested in applying for the position of Community representative, please go to the following site http://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/qcs-test/administration and find the relevant Application: Community Representative form and information.  Completed forms must be received by the school before Wednesday 15th May.

Thanks

Clancie Neilson
