House System
Every student who enrols at St Mary’s Catholic College becomes a member of one of our four College Houses. The Houses are named in honour of the first four Bishops of the Cairns Diocese:
- Cahill House – Bishop Thomas Vincent Cahill
- Murray House – Bishop James Murray
- Hutchinson House – Bishop John Hutchinson
- Heavey House – Bishop John Heavey
Belonging to a House is an important part of school life at St Mary’s. Throughout the year, students participate in a variety of activities that contribute points toward the College Participation Cup. These activities include:
- Community Days
- House meetings and student-led activities
- College carnivals (Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics)
- Debating and other inter-house competitions
The House system plays a central role in building our Catholic ethos by encouraging service, care, community and connection across year levels. It also provides opportunities for students to develop teamwork, pride and a strong sense of belonging.
Senior students play an active part in leading their Houses, helping to foster participation, build College spirit and strengthen leadership skills.
